These simple and delicious recipes are the perfect combination to enjoy with family and friends at your 4th of July BBQ. We've created healthier and flavorful twists on a few BBQ classics. The best part about them?! They don’t require many ingredients and are extremely easy to make! We don’t want you stuck in the kitchen.. it's important to be outside grilling with family and friends. You can easily prep all of these recipes before your guests arrive and have the chicken drumsticks marinating in the BBQ sauce, all ready to go!
Do you ever feel tired, bloated, or extremely stuffed after a family BBQ? These recipes will not leave you feeling this way at all! We always like to use whole food ingredients to avoid any harmful processed ones. Simplicity is key, especially when BBQing.
You can use your favorite guacamole and salsa fresca recipes to enjoy with our tortilla chips, made with coconut flour. Coleslaw is another BBQ staple we have created with a healthier and lighter spin. We have replaced a heavy sauce filled with dairy with a lighter vinaigrette to marinate the cabbage. The vinaigrette also helps to soften the cabbage, making it easier to digest.
Our lemonade recipe uses freshly squeezed lemon juice and is naturally sweetened with maple syrup. We recommend adding frozen blueberries and raspberries to your lemonade to serve for a festive red and blue theme. The gluten-free trifle includes a layer of yummy coconut cream, fresh berries, and fluffy gluten-free vanilla cake. It’s nice to prepare these in single serving mason jars, so you can see the colorful layers. The mason jars also make it easy for guests to grab their individual serving, or take home to enjoy later!

Serves 4 people
- 1/4 head purple head
- ¼ head green cabbage
- 3 medium carrots
- 3 stalks of green onion
- ¼ cup lemon juice
- 1 Tbsp dijon mustard
- ¾ cup extra virgin olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Thinly slice the purple cabbage, green cabbage, and green onion.
Grate or julliane the carrots.
Mix together all coleslaw ingredients in a bowl.
In a separate bowl whisk together all of the vinaigrette ingredients and then pour over the slaw and combine. Set aside.
BBQ Chicken Drumsticks:
- 10 organic chicken drumsticks
- 1 Cup BBQ sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Serve with more BBQ sauce
In a large bowl, toss the drumsticks in the BBQ sauce and add salt and pepper.
Turn on your grill and bring to high heat. Then place your drumsticks on the grill until fully cooked and crisp on every side.
- GF Vanilla Cake Mix
- Raspberry jam
- Coconut cream:
- 2 cans coconut cream
- 2 Tbsp maple syrup
- ½ tsp vanilla powder
Follow the vanilla cake mix instructions to prepare cake. Allow time to cool before assembly.
Whisk together the coconut cream ingredients
Assemble: Add a layer of raspberry jam berries to the bottom of your mason jar or glass, then a layer of cake, coconut cream, and berries, and repeat one more time.
- 1 cup of fresh lemon juice
- 4 cups of water
- ½ cup maple syrup
- Frozen blueberries and raspberries
Stir together in a pitcher the fresh lemon juice, water, and maple syrup.
Add ice to your glasses and pourin the lemonade.
Mix in the frozen blueberries in half of your glasses and the frozen raspberries in the other half of berries to each glass for a variation in blue and red color.
Serve with a fun colorful straw, enjoy!
